Found under this name as early as 1925 in "MAMPES Handbuch für Mixer". Fine wheat distillate from the region, carefully distilled caraway seed, enriched with aniseed, fennel and lemon, rounded off with a hint of tonka bean.
Our caraway schnapps is actually only drunk slightly chilled as a shot. But of course we also have a mix recommendation for those who like to experiment:
4 whole ice cubes in a long drink glass, then 4 cl Mampes elephant caraway, 4 cl beetroot juice and pour the whole thing with a good apple juice spritzer. Finally decorate with a sprig of basil.
